Captain America : The Winter Soldier Post Credits *spoilers*

Outlaw, K. (2014, November 3). 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' End Credits Scenes Explained: Future Marvel Movie Revelations. Retrieved December 16, 2014, from Screenrant: http://screenrant.com/captain-america-2-mid-post-credits-button-scenes-spoilers/

"Captain America : The Winter Soldier" has showcased two short clips after its credits to premiere
several new characters, that will branch out into new movies.

"Casual viewers may have been left wondering who the two crazy young people in the Silence of the
Lambs-style holding cells were, but Marvel Comic fans surely recognized twin characters
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. "

Marvel is famous for marketing its own movies after credits. With "Captain America : The Winter
Soldier", Marvel has shown two clips, instead of its usual one clip. The first clip, shown in the
middle of the credits is targeted towards its comic book fans, since it reveals two iconic characters
that die hard comic book fans have been waiting for. Marvel never reveals the name of the
characters, but implies who they are by showcasing their powers and traits.
The second clip, is targeted towards a different audience, since it shows a character that was just
introduced in that movie. Marvel has always showcased its upcoming projects after credits, but with
this new Captain America sequel they took a more careful approach and tried to get the attention of
more than just one audience.

Ownership of The Amazing Spider-Man Franchise

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/10/marvel-sony-had-spider-man-crossover-talks

Collura, S. (2014, December 9). Marvel, Sony had Spider-Man Crossover Talks. Retrieved December 11, 2014, from IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/10/marvel-sony-had-spider-man-crossover-talks

With Sony's Amazing Spider-Man franchise in need of saving and Marvel Film trying to create a
movie that would benefit from having Spider-Man, Sony and Marvel are in the talks for a Spider-
Man crossover.

"The character is of course an integral part of the comic-book version of that story."

"In an Oct. 30 e-mail, Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad tells about a potential scenario that would see Marvel produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies while Sony retains 'creative control, marketing, and distribution."

In the Marvel Civil War story line, Spider-Man plays an essential role, because of his disputes with
other Marvel characters, like Tony Stark. Sony's last hope to save the Spider-Man franchise is
the Amazing Spider-Man spin-off series. Therefore, it would benefit both studios to come to an
agreement over a Spider-Man crossover. The ownership of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is a
good example for showcasing how important ownership really is, especially with films like these,
with intricate story lines that require cross-overs. Companies will have to learn how to settle these
disputes and come to an agreement that can benefit them, and their audiences.

The Marvel Universe

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/marvel/31653/marvel-studios-and-the-marketing-model-template

Brew, S. (2014, August 11). Marvel Studios, and the marketing model template. Retrieved December 2, 2014, from denofgeek: http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/marvel/31653/marvel-studios-and-the-marketing-model-template

Quotes
"It's little secret that pretty much every major studio is now building a cinematic universe off the back of the Marvel model. Disney has another, with Star Wars, whilst Fox is playing with X-Men and Fantastic Four. Sony is juggling Spider-Man. Universal has put a classic monsters universe into motion."

Summary
Marvel has brilliantly marketed its movies, and it seems that other major companies, like Warner
Bros., Disney, and Sony, are trying to emulate Marvel's model of marketing.
Marvel has created a cinematic universe, where different characters can be seen side-by-side
together. With 20 second teasers and announced release dates, Marvel causes fans to rejoice
across different platforms and simultaneously create a buzz around upcoming films, Without even
having to create such a big presence in social media, upcoming Marvel movies are a common buzz
across websites like Twitter and Facebook. And now, competing film companies are trying to create
similar buzz with their movies.

Reflection
Marvel has used the convergence of its characters and plot lines to create one cinematic universe.
This cinematic universe makes it easier for Marvel to advertise its own movies, by cameos of other
characters. For example, Tony Stark, from the Iron Man Series appears in the Hulk (2003). With this
universe, they are also able to create movies that deviate from their characters' own story lines, like
The Avengers (2012). The ubiquity of cameos in their movies advertise their own characters and
create a cinematic experience of different characters and their stories.

Character Archetype in Guardians of the Galaxy

Gunn, J. (Director). (2014). Guardians of the Galaxy [Motion Picture].

Groot, played by Vin Diesel, is one of the several main characters in Guardians of the Galaxy. He is
a tree-like alien and a companion to Rocket Raccoon, another main character in the feature film. He
has the power to manipulate his growth and regeneration. Yet, he is the most lovable and kind
character of the main cast.

Groot resembles the archetype of the gentle giant, because his immense strength is juxtaposed by his
kindness. This archetype makes his character very appealing to audiences, and supplies the film with
comic relief. Rocket Raccoon is similarly juxtaposed with physical capabilities and personality traits.
He is the weakest among the main cast, but that is juxtaposed by his abrasive attitude and
intelligence. The mirroring traits of Groot and Rocket Raccoon and heartwarming relationship
appeals to the film's audience.

Iron Man 2 Advertising Synergy with Dr Pepper

Entertainment, M. (2010, April 16). Iron Man 2 Dr Pepper Spot Airing Now. Retrieved 11 28, 2014, from YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLtAsMTjGZI

The commercial opens up with a long shot of two janitors cleaning the iconic Tony Stark lab, one of which is played by Stan Lee, the former president of Marvel and famous comic book writer. Jarvis, a reappearing character in the Iron Man series asks the other janitor if he would like to "suit up" into an Iron Man suit. Both janitors exchange looks and one of them begins to suit up. What he thought was going to be an Iron Man suit was actually a vending machine providing Dr. Pepper.

Marvel Studios unites with Dr. Pepper to provide a commercial both promoting the new Iron Man 2 movie and Dr. Pepper. The last few seconds of the commercial juxtaposes a powerful Iron Man suit and a vending machine for Dr. Pepper to imply both products' worth. The commercial finishes with a comic relief, which aids in expanding Iron Man 2's audience to one that would want to watch a comedic movie.
